Task Overview
Reading Passage
Behavioral Exposure Because they fear failure or some other unpleasant consequence, children are sometimes afraid to engage in certain behaviors that could be beneficial to them. One technique that can help children overcome this kind of fear is behavioral exposure. With this technique, children are encouraged to perform gradually increasing amounts of the feared behavior. After they are repeatedly exposed to the behavior and experience no negative consequences, they gradually become confident that a negative outcome is unlikely, and they are eventually able to overcome their fear.

Revised version (140 words):
Behavioral exposure is a technique that assists children in overcoming such fears. In the lecture, the professor illustrated this with an example of his 8-year-old son. When they moved to a new home, the son was hesitant to interact with the neighborhood children. One day, he observed the children outside playing with their bicycles. The professor could sense his son's desire to join them. He suggested they walk to the store for ice cream and greet the children on their way. Reluctantly, Tommy agreed and received friendly responses. After buying ice cream, the professor encouraged Tommy to compliment the children's bikes. Tommy did so, and the children reacted positively. Later that day, Tommy went outside to ride his bike and interact with the other kids, eventually making new friends. This experience demonstrates how behavioral exposure can help children overcome their fears.

5.语言使用Original: Behavioral exposure is a method to help kids get rid ofovercome their fear and try to do new things. The lecturer gave example of his boy, when they first move to a new place, his kids are afraid of talking to the local kids because he's afraid of a fear that they may not accept him. And the man suggests that when they go in to buy the ice cream, he can walk past the kids and say hi to them. And also, gradually, when they come back home, the boy is nice to the kids about their bike, and the kids respond nicely and ride as fast as they could. Eventually, the boy is willing to go out and talk to other kids.
(用“overcome”代替“get rid of”,因为这是一个更自然且准确的描述。)
Revised (140 words): Behavioral exposure is a technique that helps children overcome their fears and engage in new experiences. In the lecture, the speaker provided an example of his son who was initially afraid to interact with local children after moving to a new place. The father encouraged his son to gradually face his fears by first saying "hi" to the neighborhood kids while they were out buying ice cream. Later, on their way back home, the boy complimented the children on their bikes, which led to a positive response from them. This gradual exposure helped build the child's confidence and eventually enabled him to willingly go out and engage with other children in the neighborhood. The example clearly demonstrates how behavioral exposure can effectively assist children in overcoming their fears through incremental steps and positive reinforcement.

23. 3.Delivery
The speaker's delivery is generally clear and fluid, with a consistent pace and only occasional pauses. However, there are some instances where the speaker could improve their delivery by avoiding repetition of certain phrases, such as "the professor" and "Tommy." Additionally, the speaker should work on varying their sentence structure to create a more engaging and natural flow. To improve, the speaker can practice speaking aloud and focusing on maintaining a steady pace while incorporating varied sentence structures.
4.Topic Development The speaker provides a coherent and well-organized response, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples. The example of Tommy moving to a new neighborhood and gradually overcoming his fear of talking to other children effectively illustrates the technique of behavioral exposure. However, the speaker could further develop their response by elaborating on how the gradual increase in Tommy's interactions with the neighborhood kids helped him build confidence and overcome his fear. To improve topic development, the speaker can focus on providing more detailed explanations and examples to support their main points.
5.Language UseBehavioral exposure is a technique teaching used to teach ("used to teach" is more natural and grammatically correct) children how to overcome their fears by gradually throwing introducing ("introducing" is a more appropriate word choice than "throwing") them something to challenging situations ("to challenging situations" provides clarity and context). In that lecture, the professor provides an example of his son Tommy. When he was eight years old, they moved to a new neighborhood and at the beginning Tommy was afraid to go out to talk to the neighborhood's kids. But one evening the professor took him out and when they passed the kids, the professor asked him to probably simply ("simply" is a better word choice than "probably") say hi to the kids and Tommy did. On their way back, the professor talked to Tommy again, asking him to say hi proactively. Tommy did so. By doing this gradually, having Tommy to be proactively throwing himself proactively engage with ("proactively engage with" is a more natural and accurate phrase) the kids, they become friends finally.
Revised Answer (140 words):
Behavioral exposure is a technique used to teach children how to overcome their fears by gradually introducing them to challenging situations. In the lecture, the professor shares an example of his son Tommy, who was initially afraid to interact with the neighborhood kids after moving to a new area. One evening, the professor encouraged Tommy to simply say hi to the kids as they passed by, which he did. On their way back, the professor asked Tommy to proactively greet the kids again. By gradually having Tommy proactively engage with the children, he was able to overcome his fear and eventually become friends with them. This example effectively demonstrates how behavioral exposure can help children build confidence and face their fears through incremental steps and positive experiences.

Revised 140-word Answer: The professor demonstrates how behavioral exposure helps children overcome fear and resist negative outcomes, thereby increasing their confidence. In the example, an 8-year-old boy named Tom, who recently moved to LA, was initially hesitant to interact with other children in his neighborhood. One Saturday afternoon, his father encouraged him to step outside and greet the kids playing nearby. Tom hesitantly said hi, and they responded positively. Later, his father suggested that he approach the kids again and compliment their bikes. This time, Tom felt more confident and engaged in a conversation with them. Eventually, he decided to go outside and make some real friends.
