University of Melbourne Acceptance Rate: Admissions Statistics and English Requirements
The University of Melbourne does not publish an acceptance rate. Australian Government data show it made offers to 64.4% of its domestic undergraduate applicants for 2025 (6,938 offers, 10,773 applicants); no official figure exists for international applicants.
Melbourne itself publishes no applications or offers totals. The Australian Department of Education does, for every university: the number of domestic applicants for first-semester undergraduate study in Commonwealth supported places, the offers made and the resulting offer rate. This page uses those official figures, labels exactly what they count, and lists the English test scores international applicants need.

What the numbers mean
The offer rate is the Department of Education's measure, not the University's. It covers domestic students applying for first-semester undergraduate study in Commonwealth supported places, through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre or directly. Each student is counted once: at their highest preference, and with the latest offer they received. Because an offer can come from a lower preference, the rate is an indicator of demand rather than the share of a fixed applicant pool that was admitted.
On that measure Melbourne is well below the national figure: 64.4% for 2025, against 84.8% for all universities combined. Its rate has fallen each year since 2022 (70.3%) as applicants rose from 9,352 to 10,773 while offers stayed close to 7,000.
International applicants apply directly to the University and are assessed on their qualifications and English results. Melbourne does not publish how many international applications it receives or how many offers it makes, so there is no official international acceptance rate; figures quoted elsewhere are estimates.
