What the numbers mean

Michigan received 109,112 first-year applications for fall 2025, up from 87,632 two years earlier, and admitted 16.4%. It offers a non-binding early action round (apply by 1 November, decision by 31 January) but no early decision, and it does not publish separate early action numbers. The wait list is large: 24,447 applicants were offered a place for fall 2025 and 1,663 were eventually admitted.

Michigan does not publish an acceptance rate for out-of-state or international applicants. The residency breakdown in its Common Data Set is left blank for fall 2024 and fall 2025, and the class profile reports enrollment only: of 7,466 first-years who enrolled in fall 2023, 3,849 were Michigan residents, 3,617 were out-of-state and 271 were international students. Any out-of-state or international admit rate you see elsewhere is not from the university.

For enrolled first-years in fall 2025, the middle 50% SAT was 1370–1530 (median 1470) and the middle 50% ACT was 32–34; 55% of the class submitted SAT scores and 18% ACT scores. Out-of-state and international students pay a much higher tuition: the Common Data Set lists $66,602 for a first-year non-resident against $18,402 for a Michigan resident (labelled 2026-27), plus a $1,000 required fee for international students and $17,220 for on-campus food and housing.
